Niger Tornadoes have sacked their technical adviser Erasmus Onu and replaced him with chief coach Hamza Abara. Abara will be in charge of the Minna club pending the appointment of a new technical adviser. Veteran coach Onu, according to a statement on the club’s official Twitter handle, was sacked following the team’s poor performance so far in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season. His last game in charge of the club was Sunday’s 2-0 away loss to Rivers United.
“After due consultation during the rigorous meeting by the management of the club, we notify the public on the disengagement of our technical adviser Erasmus Onu over poor performance,” reads the statement.
“Our chief coach Hamza Abara has been notified to take charge of the team immediately pending the time we search for a coach suitable for the position of the technical adviser. “We wish Coach Erasmus Onu all the best in his future endeavors.”
Onu who has handled the likes of Kwara United and Heartland is the first coaching casualty in the NPFL this season. He took over the post few weeks to the start of the season after the club’s former technical adviser Abubakar Bala was relieved of his job. Tornadoes occupy the last position in the table and will face Abia Warriors in an NPFL match day 10 fixture on Sunday.
